Change the default domain for track links

To track your SMS campaign performance we have a URL shortener that shrinks long URLs into small links suitable for text messaging.

How to track a link within your message

A Tracked Link URL will include "Tapth. At" as the default domain. eg. Tapth.at/abc123

For each recipient of a campaign, a unique extension will be added to the URL so that each time the link is clicked it can be attributed to the recipient that received it.

For increased recipient trust and branding you can customise your track links to include your brand or company name. Here are some example custom domains from other commercial brands:

• Huffington Post: huff.to/a1b2c3

• Starbucks: sbux.co/a1b2c3

• Google: goo.gl/a1b2c3

• Pepsi: pep.si/a1b2c3

• YouTube: youtu.be/a1b2c3

Below are steps for setting up your custom domain

1. Update your DNS records with your domain host

To configure a custom domain track link, you will need access to your website's DNS records. This process is recommended to be completed by either a web developer who manages your website or an IT manager who manages your network at your organisation.

In the DNS setup for your desired track link domain, create a CNAME type record that points to track-link.transmitsms.com

If the domain has existing A record redirecting to our legacy static IP address, this should be removed before creating the CNAME type record. DNS record changes can take up to 72 hours to go into effect, but typically they happen much sooner.

2. Submit a Ticket

Once the DNS change has been made, Submit a Ticket which includes your account ID and custom domain name for track links.

Once we’ve received all the correct details, our Customer Support team will verify correct CNAME setup & finalise the configuration of custom domain track links. The process is usually quick, and we’ll let you know once everything’s ready to go.

3. Verify Custom Domain & start sending

Navigate to Account Settings in your account. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen. When configured correctly, your custom domain will be shown in the Custom Domain field.

When sending a campaign with track links, the application will automatically adjust the placeholder character count of your tracked links on the character counter in the Send SMS screen to your new domain length.
